Birth Announcements by Juliet Glass

Alison Barshak, the original chef at Philadelphia's Striped Bass and chef/owner at the recently shuttered Alison Café in Ceders, unveiled the 65 seat Alison at Bluebell at 721 Skippack Pike in the spring. Wood tables and chairs, yellow and blue accents throughout, and an open kitchen with a wood-burning stove set a simple stage for a contemporary American menu that emphasizes seafood. Starters ($7 to $13) roam from grilled Haloumi cheese with Israeli salad, lemon and pita to ginger fried squid with wasabi drizzle and mango slaw. Main courses ($17 to $28) swim from grilled swordfish with crab/corn salsa, good cheese polenta, and salsa verde to chili dusted skate with citrus brown butter and jicama/avocado salad. Desserts ($5.50) by Amelia Dietrich, formerly of Philadelphia's Opus 251, include cherry/white chocolate mousse napoleon and warm strawberry rhubarb crisp with vanilla crisp.
