Philadelphia Dining
by John Mariani
The most striking example of the city's new culinary spirit is Striped Bass , a magnificant space reclaimed from a defunct brokeraage house.
With its 30-feet marble pillars, dark mahogany, mullioned windows, and grand open kitchen, Striped Bass is a great place to people watch.
But it's chef Alison Barshak's all-seafood menu that is packing people in. Her ingredients are impeccably fresh, and with them
she does such sumptuous, imaginative dishes as grilled swordfish with red curry and lemon grass, Parmesan-coated monkfish
paillard with artichoke risotto, and baked pompano Creole style.
